Registration open for the Biharko Taupada conference

The edition of this year’s annual Taupada conference, organized by Taupa Euskaltzaleen Mugimendua, will be held within the framework of the BIHAR project. It will take place on June 4, 2026, from 09:15 to 14:00, at the Romo cultural center in Getxo, and will focus on narratives and discourses in language revitalization.

From this initiative, “Biharko Taupada” was born.

The morning program will feature two main contributions. First, it will explore what innovative or meaningful narratives minority languages of the Global South are developing. Research carried out within the BIHAR congress will be presented, analyzing the discourses of around 70 language communities from an intersectional perspective. In recent weeks, a socialization phase has been underway to share this research with various movements and stakeholders in the Basque Country, and the initial findings from those reflection sessions will also be presented at Biharko Taupada.

Second, from an intersectional perspective, there will be discussion on how narratives about language can be interwoven with those emerging from anti-racism, feminism, and environmentalism. What can we learn from different movements? Where do we draw inspiration for these discourses? What can be useful for the revitalization of the Basque language?

Registration is open on the Taupa website, where the program can also be consulted.
