In 2025, we gathered discourses related to languages undergoing revitalization worldwide. Voices from various active language communities were collected, particularly in contexts of minoritised languages engaged in revitalization processes.

Around 70 language communities across five continents were analyzed

In total, discourses from around 70 language communities across five continents were analyzed from an intersectional perspective. Some of these languages include Aymara, Bubi, Quechua, Kurdish, Māori, Santali, Senćoŧen, Nquiyaampaa, Tonga, Balinese, Frisian, Dumi, Catalan, Hawaiian, Maasai, Mapuche, among others.

In-depth interviews and focus groups

The research prioritized qualitative methods, including in-depth interviews and focus groups. Additionally, a sidnificant number of documents produced by organizations and speaker communities were analyzed.

Understanding the work of key actors

The goal was to identify key narrative elements by understanding the work of key actors. The result is a diagnosis of international discourses on language revitalization.

Collaboration with several organizations was essential: : First People’s Cultural Council (FPCC), Endangered Languages Project (ELP), Associació Linguapax Internacional, la Cátedra UNESCO del Patrimonio Lingüístico Mundial de la Universidad del País Vasco (EHU) and the gathering of young speakers of minoritised languages (HIGA).
