In language revitalization processes, narratives and discourses are constantly evolving, adapting, and being reshaped.

This year, Taupada placed these narratives at the heart of the event, framing the programme within the international BIHAR Congress, dedicated to minoritized language communities in the Global South that are engaged in language revitalization processes.

Throughout the morning programme, two key contributions were highlighted. First, participants were introduced to the innovative and inspiring narratives being developed by minoritized languages across the Global South. To this end, research carried out as part of the BIHAR Congress was presented. The study examines the discourses of around 70 language communities from an intersectional perspective. During the spring of 2026, this research was shared with a range of social movements and organisations across the Basque Country, and the first findings emerging from those reflection sessions were also presented at Biharko Taupada. Participants had the opportunity to learn about the research and hear the initial conclusions drawn from this collaborative process. The full results of the study, however, will be presented publicly at the BIHAR Congress in September.

The second contribution explored, from an intersectional perspective, how language narratives can be woven together with those emerging from anti-racist, feminist, and environmental movements. What can language revitalization learn from these movements? What inspires and sustains their narratives? And what can they contribute to the revitalization of Basque?
