The importance of the Expert Training Programs in the development of the BIHAR project

The Expert Training Program on Language Revitalization, launched for the third year by the Garabide Association, aims to promote the comprehensive development of individuals from minoritised language communities and to protect human rights. However, the program has been developing since the early beginnings of the Association, taking on different forms over the years.
The course primarily seeks to share and collectively develop tools with communities from the Global South, in order to address the challenges posed by globalization and the loss of native languages. In this process, around 10 communities are empowered to develop their identity policies and language revitalization strategies. At the same time, the program aims to raise awareness within Basque society about the risk of disappearance faced by minoritised languages and to position the Basque language revitalization experience as a reference to be shared with other peoples.
The lessons learned from this program have been essential in the development of the BIHAR project. The tools and knowledge gathered in these expert courses have provided a space to reflect on the international dimensions of minoritised language revitalization discourses, combining both practical and theoretical experiences. Furthermore, in 2026, participants in the expert training program will take part in the International Congress, fostering practical and international connections between projects.
